It’s Monday morning. I woke up at my standard time of 4:30. Got up, drank water, listened to Tim Robbins and knocked out 50 push ups. I’m off of my “regular job” today for 2 reasons.
1. A wind down from my great birthday week and weekend.
2. To refocus on becoming a full time writer.
I’ve come across a good number of avenues, but nothing seems right or “right now enough” for me. As example, The Barefoot writers club sounds really cool. If I was a novice at the craft it would make perfect sense to join. However, I don’t really need the “e-books and training” to become a writer. I been writing for 22 years now. I say 22 because I really became connected with writing with focus and purpose in high school. I believe I do a very good job of putting words down and connecting with people.
I know of some freelance opportunities, but the pay isn’t “quit my job” good. It’s appreciated, but I honestly feel I can earn more with the skill, color and passion I provide.
I’ve also been looking in to poetry submissions for magazines and contest and well, I either just missed a deadline or got to wait a minimum 45 days before the next deadline ends to collect or even get a no. With the way life moves, it seems like it should be a more efficient process. Maybe it is and I haven’t found it yet.
Then there’s the “free work for exposure”….
This can all be a little discouraging but I’m doing anything but giving up. There’s a great opportunity out there for me and I’m going to find it. The motivation really isn’t the money. The motivation is to love what I am doing and doing it on my terms. Let’s go get our terms.
