“Pen Pimps” is a composition coalition. It’s designed to be a judgement free creative outlet for thinkers, writers and creators. The content is raw, revealing, inspirational, thought provoking, goal oriented and much more. To sum up everything it is in one word. The content is Life. Real Life. That’s why one of our main categories is called “Life Write”.
This isn’t an elitist journalist group. Nor is it a “holier than thou” expert advice group. It’s real honest people, going through real life things and wanting to express those things the only way they know how. Through writing. That writing could be in the form of a journal excerpt, a poem, a rap, it could be in musical composition form. It could be audio or video. As long as the expression is genuine, it is accepted here.
“Pimp” was explicitly chosen because sometimes you have no “Pals”. Sometimes you need to push the pen to feel better. Force the love or the hate on to the page or screen for internal satisfaction. Your mental, your physical and your interactions can be altered by what you have bottled up inside of you. You may need to “pimp it out”. It’s more of a “Pimp My Ride” than a “Pimp These Hoes” mindset, but the premise and purpose still fits if you’re savvy with word play, metaphors and Black American Culture. An informal definition of “Pimp” is to make a person or object appear impressive. We impress with the pen and make the pen look impressive.
A “Pen Pimp” is a person who’s using the pen to escape and prosper out of their situation and helps others in that process. Marcus Garvey, Martin Luther King Jr., Ava DuVernay, Judy Blume, Malcolm X, Charlamange Tha God, Angie Martinez, Nas, Ice Cube, Common, Missy Elliot, Eve, DMX, Composer Bob James, Quincy Jones, Rick Rubin, Smokey Robinson, Ne-yo, Ty Dolla Sign, Chris Rock, Kevin Hart, Oprah, Maya Angelou, Alex Haley, John Singleton, Robert Greene, Napoleon Hill, Gary Vee, Daymond John and even if he doesn’t actually write, Jay Z are all great examples of “Pen Pimps”. These are people who tell real stories that spark change and help others in a composition form. These are the people passionate about life and everything that can be obtained in it. They are also the people that have mastered the courage of being themselves. That’s what Pen Pimping is all about.
This whole idea of “Pen Pimps” was sparked from a Gary Vee video. I been following him for years and all his content, statements and motivations are true. Sometimes the message is understood but it doesn’t hit you. Well for some reason this video made the message hit me. I have new life, purpose and direction because I watched this video in a down moment.
There are no rules, written or unwritten to the path of your happiness and success. Just “Do” until you get there. We hope you enjoy the content on PenPimps.com
